May 4th!!!

Page #7 of 8!

This is the main altar and sanctuary of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.

Here I am heading to the Piazza in front of the Pantheon.

Yet another obelisk relocated from ancient Egypt!

The Pantheon in honor of all the gods. It is now the Church of Saint Mary and the Martyrs.

Just across the piazza is a blend of the old and the new, a proud cultural tradition and the worst of modern eating...a papal plaque above a McDonald's Restaurant!

This is the tomb of King Umberto of Italy. The royal tombs here are under constant guard of members of the Italian Royalty.

The sanctuary of the Church of Saint Mary and the Martyrs. Can you imagine having a wedding in this place and having to fight off the tourists? I do not think I would like it, but some do since the church is in active use!

This is the dome of the Pantheon. It is wider than Saint Peter's dome and the opening in the middle is without any barrier. Rain and the like can fall through. It does, however, provide a nice light for the building!
