This domestic altar was dedicated to an "unknown god," most likely to prevent the domestic deity from being profaned by an outsider...protecting the god's name meant that the wrong person could never take the god's name in vain.

There is a small museum in the Palatine Forum that is a museum for artifacts found when doing excavations. Mussolini decorated it with a fascist eagle.
